How did this slip through the cracks? I mean, I didn’t even know about it until I just came across it, even though it was pre’d a few days ago. Costello is no less than a rock genius, and even though, to some, his later stuff has been hit or miss, I’ve usually been able to find a lot of enjoyment in it. This hit store shelves this last week, so it is definitely a brand new release and one worth checking out. The label that released this, Lost Highway, might be my favorite record label going right now, with the recent Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, and Elvis Costello stuff.

The San Diego-based troubadour’s third studio release, “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” was produced by Martin Terefe, known for his work with KT Tunstall, Ron Sexsmith, and James Morrison. The album sees Mraz continuing to tread his own distinctive artistic path, melding a variegated musical tapestry with passionate, personal lyricism. Among the highlights are collaborations with British tunesmith James Morrison and singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat. “I’m Yours,” the album’s first single, was chosen due to the undeniable fan response to the song.

Mraz is an eclectic artist with multiple and varied stylistic influences, including pop, rock, folk, jazz, country, and hip hop. He has played with various artists, including The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews Band, James Blunt, Gavin DeGraw, Paula Cole, John Popper, Alanis Morissette, The Ohio Players, Rachael Yamagata, and Jewel.

Hey, everybody, my name’s Mike, but I go by the handle of Chinballs(it’s a South Park reference). I live in beautiful Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was one of the high finishers in the music contest RLSLOG ran last week. I hope to bring you guys some of the best musical posts and keep a high standard in what you see my name attached to here.

This is the new Scarlett Johansson album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. The album consists of 10 Tom Waits covers and 1 original song, and has created quite a buzz, not only because of the performer, with Scarlett arguably being the most beautiful woman in Hollywood but because of the content, as Tom Waits songs are pretty revered among some crowds. The project has interested me, and I’m actually going to listen to this almost as soon as I post it.

You’ve heard what Scarlett has to say about covering Tom Waits, you’ve read what Bowie has to say about her covering Tom Waits, shit you’ve even seen what Tom Waits has to say about ScarJo covering Tom Waits. NOW IT’S TIME TO HEAR HER COVER TOM WAITS.

The record’s called Anywhere I Lay My Head, and the first cover to convert its way into internet friendly streamability is the title track. As Sitek told us on a snowy night a few months back, he was going for a “cough syrup/Tinkerbell” vibe throughout. That night we complained that Sitek’s dense production tended to bury her vocal — drowning Tinker Bell in the cough syrup, to fuck with the metaphor. We walked out thinking it was a swell sounding Sitek album, and Scarlett was guesting. This is just the first helping, but see how the syrup suits you.

This time around we have an up-and-coming band, Cage The Elephant with their S/T album. This indie/rock group has notoriously begun their carrier with a party-hardy reputation, loud shows and good tunes. Worth a listen in my books & buy their album if you like it! Support these guys. This is the first full length studio album by Cage the Elephant. These guys have released some semi-successful singles over the last year or two and are looking to broaden their horizons. Check out their myspace page to get a sample of their tunes. They list their influences as: “PEER PRESSURE, MARIJUANA, AND HIGHSCHOOL GIRLS” … so they are definately a bunch of kids looking to have fun.

Here’s a new release from group FNT, this is the new live album from Underoath. Which is quite impressive, over 2 weeks before store date. I first discoverd this band on the Madden 07 soundtrack, their track was one of the few I could bear to listen to. The music they make is kind of a melodic metalcore (I hate that word, but thats what been adopted). Enjoy!

Underoath makes a triumphant, yet special return for all of their fans on Survive, Kaleidoscope. The release features not only a live CD, but also a full live set on a 16:9 widescreen DVD. The DVD features such hits as “They’re Only Chasing Safety”, “Define The Great Line”. The CD is 12 live tracks from select tour dates across the world!

Underoath is a Grammy-nominated Christian metalcore band from Tampa, Florida formed in 1998. They are currently signed to Solid State Records and are the label’s best selling band. After several line-up changes, Underoath’s only original member is drummer Aaron Gillespie. During the band’s early years, when they were fronted by former vocalist Dallas Taylor, Underoath displayed a more Deathcore sound, with double-bass drums and breakdowns. With Taylor, they released Act of Depression (1999), Cries of the Past (2000), and The Changing of Times (2002). Following his leave, Spencer Chamberlain became lead vocalist. The band then released They’re Only Chasing Safety (2004) and Define the Great Line (2006), gaining a certified gold rating and the highest-charting Christian album on The Billboard 200 since 1997, respectively. These two albums gave them more mainstream and commercial success.

3 Doors Down is a American post-grunge rock band formed in Escatawpa, Mississippi in 1994 by Brad Arnold (vocals and drums), Matt Roberts (guitar) and Todd Harrell (bass). The band signed to Universal Records after the success of their song “Kryptonite”. The band has since sold well over 13 million albums in the United States alone since their debut album, The Better Life, was released in 2000. They also perform more than 300 concerts a year and have performed with other well-known artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Staind, Nickelback, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Seether and Shinedown.

Man this fine release hit the scene about 24 hours ago and was brought to us by group “KATAKLYSM” (themselves?) Anyways, I waited a long time to get my hands onto this record. My fav. track is definitely “The Chains of Power”.  Check it out, then buy it! (I do the same ).

Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. They call their musical style “northern hyperblast” after an advertisement in M.E.A.T. magazine describing another band, Fear Factory, as “hyperblast”. The term refers to the extremely fast blast beats that Kataklysm’s drummer, Max Duhamel, fuses into the music.

Kataklysm is well known for their incorporation of movie-quote samples in their music.

Brooklyn’s Don Diva is Foxy’s debut album at KOCH Records and the album her long-time fans have been fiending for. It’s an incredible collection of gritty street anthems that Foxy’s been working on for years now. It’s all new. And it’s fire.

Despite her recent incarceration, Foxy isn’t too concerned. As she states, “This is just a temporary situation. I made my bed and have no problem lying in it. My will is steady. What doesn’t kill me will only make me a stronger and better person, by my own doing. I think there are greater injustices in America that require our immediate attention, I will not surrender.”

On the chopping block today we have some Death Cab for Cutie, a fairly well known indie band from the States. This album brings a new sound to their songs. They have said that they included more heavy, slow metal type sounds into this release. It sounds pretty cool, worth a look. Enjoy!

Narrow Stairs is the seventh studio album by rock band Death Cab for Cutie. It will be released on May 12, 2008 in the United Kingdom and May 13, 2008 in the United States. The first single of the album was “I Will Possess Your Heart”, released on March 18, 2008.

Death Cab for Cutie is an American indie pop rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997.
